What was the scope of renovation work?

The renovation of St. Mary’s Church in Twickenham was a carefully planned and executed project that involved a wide range of internal and aesthetic improvements. The building, having stood for centuries, needed a full assessment before any work began. Internally, the church saw major upgrades including new English oak floors. Such an improvement now provides a beautiful, durable, and practical base for daily church activities, services, and community events. The renovation also included full modernisation of the electrical and mechanical systems, ensuring energy efficiency and long-term sustainability. Throughout the process, the aim was to respect the church’s historical features while equipping it for future use. The restored spaces now support not just worship but concerts, exhibitions, and local gatherings. As a result St. Mary’s is a more flexible and inclusive venue.

Who did we cooperate with?

The successful renovation of St. Mary’s Church was made possible through collaboration with a wide range of people. This variety included dedicated partners, professionals, and community members. At the heart of the project was the expertise of Richard Griffiths Architects They are a well-known firm with a long history of working on heritage properties across England. Their deep understanding of historical preservation was essential in developing a plan that honoured the church’s past. At the same time the work we performed prepared it for the future. The Main Vicar provided guidance throughout the project, ensuring all updates remained in line with ecclesiastical requirements. Key support also came from lovely Church Warden’s and Carers who just like us had the best results at heart.

Perhaps most importantly, the local Twickenham community was deeply involved. Regular consultation sessions, open forums, and feedback opportunities ensured the voices of parishioners and residents were heard. Together, all parties created a result that reflects shared values, community identity, and deep respect for the building’s historical legacy. We are proud we could be a part of such an important for the community project.

How is the work on commercial properties different from residential ones?

Renovating a commercial heritage building like St. Mary’s Church in Twickenham presents a unique set of challenges. These on the other hand, differ significantly from residential projects. Unlike a house, where a single homeowner usually makes decisions, a church renovation must consider many voices. The voices that belong to clergy, parishioners, diocesan representatives, architects, conservation experts, and the broader community. Every update must align with the parish’s mission and respect the sacred purpose of the building.

In addition, commercial and public-use properties are subject to stricter regulations. This is especially challenging when the site is listed or located within a conservation area. In this case, St. Mary’s Church is both a religious and cultural landmark. That meant that restoration efforts had to comply with local borough requirements and heritage protection laws. This as a result required detailed documentation, heritage assessments, and architectural drawings submitted for approval before any physical work began.

The techniques used were also more specialised, requiring skilled artisans familiar with historical restoration. Unlike a private residence where convenience might take priority, in a church, historical accuracy and long-term durability are critical. The building must accommodate large numbers of visitors for Sunday services, morning events, concerts, and community programs. It must be flexible, yet faithful to its story and structure. The result is a beautiful balance of tradition, innovation, and community purpose. We were able to perform this work thanks to all the required certificates and qualifications we have. Our expertise reaches far beyond residential buildings. We are fully capable of restoring, refurbishing or building form a scratch a commercial building. Renovation of St. Mary’s Church in Twickenham is a testimony of just that.
