The house extension in St. Margarets is an example of how a seemingly simple change can completely transform your home. This ground floor extension project created a wonderful living space for a full of energy family. We are incredibly happy that we could once again deliver work within time and budget. The whole project took us less than five months.
What was the extent of work?
As with any house extension we first had to analyse structural, integrity of the existing building. Although it was a rather simple extension, we made sure that there was no negligence on our part and that we provided professional expertise. Such a project can be divided into two parts – construction and finish. As far as construction is concerned, we did the following:

- Building rear extension – foundation, structural support for the roof and walls and finishing with matching brick on elevation
- Remodelling the interior of a ground floor by removing walls and adding structural supports
- Laying roof tiles, gutters, and down pipes in a discreet way not to damage the aesthetics
- Mounting skylights in the newly created roof over the extension
- Mounting windows including two large patio doors
- Complete insulation from the inside
- Adjusting plumbing and electric systems
After the construction part was completed, we moved on to finishing and this work included:
- Laying new floor with massive tiles
- Fitting custom made kitchen and all amenities.
- Creating kitchen island with storage and electric sockets
- Finishing the walls taking care of the smallest detail
- Creating curved walls
- Installing new skirting – also on very technically demanding curved walls
- Installing lighting – recessed lights and incredibly original pendulum light over kitchen island
- And all that work brought beautiful result.
How did we let more natural light in?
One of the goals of house extension in St. Margarets was to let more natural light in. Because we build and extension we added roof space. This on the other hand created opportunity to mount skylights. One of the skylights is placed directly over the kitchen island. Such a placement over the centrepiece of the room allows natural light to flood the entire space. Additionally, a roof window was added above the wall where no regular window could be mounted. This helped to lit part of the kitchen which would otherwise be hidden in a darker corner. Such natural light is very stylishly complemented by warm lights above kitchen counter and kitchen island.

There was one more design decision during house extension in St. Margarets that allowed us to let more natural light in. It was to install two identical glass patio doors. These doors which optically divide the space between the kitchen and the dining room provide ample natural light. Because we almost completely eliminated the back wall substituting it with glass surface the rooms seem more spacious. It helped us to blur the border between the outdoor and indoor. As a result, a young full of energy family has an easy access to the rear garden. What is more, parents can keep careful watch over their children regardless of where they are. Another benefit of such large glass doors is that it is cost effective – saving on both electricity and heating.
How did we remodel the kitchen?
Adding a house extension in St. Margarets created opportunity to open the space. We could reorganise the living area and create open floor kitchen with dining room. The whole design revolved around light. It was our priority that crucial elements would get sufficient amount of sunlight. Therefore, the placement of kitchen island and the skylight were well thought over in advance. We managed to create unique look combining two sources of light. What is more the kitchen island itself is not only very practical with storage, electric sockets and sitting area, but also very trendy. Despite being massive the design and high quality materials used do not make it optically heavy. The thin light-coloured countertop we mounted seems to be levitating adding delicate touch. And the sitting area with bar stools helps to reduce the bulky feel.

Additionally to modern kitchen design, our clients made interesting choices as far as finishing is concerned. We laid enormous tiles on the floor connecting seamlessly the kitchen and dining room. We have created curved walls which together with uniquely shaped ceilings give one-of-a-kind feeling. However, what was most important for us was to meet the needs and requirements of our clients. The space we have created helps the family to be together even if they all engage in different activities. Hiring trustworthy builders like Rose Line is a guarantee of having a space tailored to homeowners’ needs.
