Setting the stage: site preparation
Every successful construction project begins with meticulous planning and careful site preparation. Our first step involved clearing the site of any personal belongings, ensuring that all items were securely protected and stored in agreed-upon locations. This initial step is crucial, as it allows us to create a clean slate for the construction process to unfold.
Once the site was cleared, we established robust security measures to protect the property and maintain a hazard-free environment. Hoarding was erected around the perimeter, and any unused openings were boarded up, ensuring that our work areas were shielded from unauthorized access and potential hazards. This attention to security not only protects the property but also instils confidence in our clients that their investment is safe.

Designated areas for welfare facilities, including changing rooms and a canteen, were established alongside a site office for material and equipment storage. Our plumbing and electrical teams visited the job site to ensure that temporary services such as water and power were set up, enabling us to commence work without interruption. By the end of this phase, our construction team was fully briefed and ready to begin the soft strip-outs and demolition process.
Clearing the way: soft strip-outs and demolition
As we moved into the soft strip-out and demolition stage, our dedicated team of experienced builders executed a meticulous removal of all unwanted furniture, cabinetry, and finishes. This process involved the careful disassembly of existing structures to expose critical elements that the architects and structural engineers needed to assess.

By exposing these areas, we facilitated a thorough evaluation of the building’s integrity and allowed for informed design decisions to be made.
During this phase, our team also removed ceilings and exposed floor structures, which provided valuable insights into the underlying framework of the home.

This exposure was crucial for identifying any potential issues that needed to be addressed before moving forward with the renovation. While this stage was undoubtedly the noisiest part of the project—characterized by heavy machinery, concrete breaking, and the constant movement of materials – it was essential for laying the groundwork for the upcoming structural changes.
As we progressed, temporary propping and structural supports were installed to ensure safety during the demolition process.

Foundation trenches were excavated and prepared for inspection by Building Control officers, who would ensure that our work complied with all necessary regulations.
Building the future: concrete and structure
With the demolition phase successfully completed, we transitioned to the exciting stage of structural development. This phase marked the transformation of architectural drawings into tangible structures. Our first task was the concrete pour, where we filled in all excavations with high-quality concrete, creating a solid base for the new walls and floors.

The Stonehill Road project required our masonry work to be divided into two sub-phases to accommodate the first-floor extension. We began by constructing the external masonry walls of the ground floor, which provided the foundational framework for the new steel structure that would support the first floor.

Once the ground floor walls were in place, we bespoke ordered all necessary steelwork, ensuring that every component was custom-fit for the design.
As we erected the new external walls, including masonry and timber frame structures, we shaped the skeleton of the master bedroom and other living spaces.

Throughout this process, our teams worked in tandem to ensure that the ground floor slab was prepared with underfloor heating, while new internal partitions were assembled to define the layout of the home.

Infrastructure integration: first fix electrical and plumbing
The first fix electrical and plumbing phase is one of the most intricate stages of the construction process, requiring seamless collaboration among our technical, design, and construction teams. During this phase, we meticulously planned and installed all electrical cables and plumbing pipes, ensuring that everything was routed correctly and positioned in accordance with the design specifications.

This stage is vital for the long-term functionality of the home, as it involves the installation of hidden infrastructure that will not be visible in the finished project. We took great care to avoid clashes between the various systems, ensuring that our layout would not interfere with the placement of lights, air conditioning units, or other fixtures.
While this phase may seem less visually impactful, it is a crucial foundation for the overall aesthetic and functionality of the home. For several weeks, the site may have appeared stagnant, but behind the scenes, our team was hard at work installing the essential systems that would support the future liveability of the home.

Plumbers installed first fix sanitaryware, while electricians positioned their back boxes in the agreed-upon locations.

Finishing touches: windows, doors, and internal finishes
With the structural elements and hidden infrastructure in place, we moved on to the installation of external windows and doors.

Our team had carefully measured and surveyed all openings prior to this phase, ensuring accurate delivery and installation. We sourced high-quality windows from two separate suppliers: one specializing in wooden windows and the other responsible for the installation of large aluminum sliding doors.

The installation of these windows and doors not only enhanced the home’s aesthetic appeal but also facilitated drylining works around the openings. As we progressed, it was the perfect opportunity for our clients to finalize their selections for internal finishes, including tiles, flooring, paint colours, and decorative elements.
Creating comfort: closing up
Once the windows and doors were installed, we commenced with the plaster boarding and skimming process. This phase is often regarded as one of the dustiest and messiest parts of the construction process, but it is also one of the most crucial for achieving a refined finish. Our specialist plasterers demonstrated their expertise as they smoothed out all dry-lined surfaces, ensuring that every wall, ceiling, and corner was perfect.
The quality of our work becomes evident during this stage, as we focus on delivering a finish that meets our high standards. It is during this phase that clients start to recognize the contractor’s attention to detail and commitment to quality. The bathrooms, including the master, family, guest, and ground floor powder room, began to take shape as we installed floor and wall tiles.

The Stonehill Road project featured an extensive amount of tiling, with large-format tiles selected for the ground floor, and the master bathroom adorned with full-height 8’x4′ wall slabs and 4’x4′ floor tiles.

A centerpiece of elegance: the wine cellar
One of the most exciting features of this renovation project was the custom wine cellar, which was integrated into the design early in the demolition and excavation phases.

This luxurious addition was meticulously planned to not only serve as a functional space for wine storage but also as a stunning visual centerpiece within the living area.
The wine cellar is designed to hold up to 600 bottles, providing ample space for both everyday selections and rare vintages. Its design features a striking glass floor that allows the cellar to be viewed from above, creating a breathtaking visual element that seamlessly connects the living space with the cellar. This glass floor is more than just an aesthetic choice; it serves to highlight the wine collection while ensuring that the cellar remains a prominent and elegant feature of the home.

The installation of the wine cellar was executed with precision. We collaborated with a specialist company that brought expertise in creating climate-controlled environments, ensuring that the cellar maintained optimal conditions for wine storage. The process was straightforward, yet it required meticulous attention to detail to ensure that every component was installed to exacting standards.

As the wine cellar was completed, it became a focal point of the living space—a conversation starter that exemplifies the homeowners’ appreciation for fine wine and entertaining. The inclusion of glass doors further enhances its appeal, allowing guests to admire the collection while enjoying the warmth of the home.

Craftsmanship at its best: carpentry and joinery
Another critical aspect of the renovation involved the removal, supply, and installation of new wooden door frames, doors, and bespoke joinery. Our skilled carpenters worked closely with the clients to ensure that every piece met their specifications and aesthetic preferences.

The new doors feature unique, architecturally designed ironmongery that adds a touch of elegance and sophistication to the interiors.

The kitchen, in particular, became a masterpiece of design and functionality. Our team oversaw the entire process, from the initial site measurements to the final installations.

The kitchen cabinetry was crafted with the highest quality materials, incorporating innovative storage solutions that maximize usability. High-end appliances were seamlessly integrated into the design, and the space was adorned with natural stone work surfaces that added a luxurious touch.

The art of aesthetics: decoration
As we approached the final stages of the renovation, our decorators brought the vision to life with their artistry and attention to detail. They applied modern color combinations to walls and ceilings, transforming the spaces into inviting and stylish environments.

The decorators also focused on fine-finished carpentry and joinery details, ensuring that every element of the design was cohesive and visually appealing.

Ceiling cornices were meticulously installed, and every corner was addressed to ensure that the walls and ceilings were perfectly flat and smooth. Wallpaper applications in the new offices and the ground floor powder room served as a testament to the decorators’ professionalism, showcasing their skills and commitment to quality craftsmanship.

The moment of truth: handover
After months of hard work and dedication, we approached the final stages of the project, culminating in the handover of the completed home to our clients. This moment is always bittersweet, as it marks the culmination of our efforts and the beginning of a new chapter for the homeowners.

In preparation for the handover, we meticulously tested and commissioned all electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems to ensure compliance with current building regulations. All project documentation, including warranties and manuals, were gathered and made ready for review. Our team spent hours inspecting every corner and detail of the construction process, ensuring that everything was in perfect order and met the clients’ expectations.

Before the final handover, we conducted a deep clean of the entire property, ensuring that all finishes, fixtures, and fittings were pristine. Every appliance was tested multiple times to guarantee that it functioned as designed and required. Our goal was to ensure that the structure was not just a house, but a true home for our clients, ready for them to step into and begin their new life.

In a delightful twist of fate, our deadline for the handover coincided with Christmas Eve. To our joy, our clients were able to move in two weeks earlier, just in time to celebrate the holiday season in their newly transformed home.
